Kultura

Editorial, Art Direction, Print

Kultura is a publication that journeys through Filipino culture and cultural identity, specifically from the lens of Filipino first, second, and third-generation immigrants in Canada. Kultura in Tagalog translates to the word ‘culture’. Through conducting surveys and interviews with over twenty Filipino immigrants, I was able to provide a new platform for them to share stories in relation to their heritage and growing up in a multinational country where their culture is still seemingly reduced.

Furthermore, this publication acts as a resource on both historical and current facts about Filipino culture, delving into the nuances of having a cultural identity and how it affects us more than we think.

The sun is very symbolic in the fabric of Filipino culture. It is shown prominently on our national flag, and represents some of our most treasured values — freedom, unity, and positivity. The sun serves as the main graphic logo of Kultura, used in different weights to spotlight the vastness of Filipino culture. The lively colour palette evokes feelings of hope and pride, as it is also inspired by our flag.
